Widely regarded as one of the most influential comedic performers of his generation, Carrey first rose to prominence in the early 1990s through his work on the Fox sketch comedy series In Living Color. His breakthrough film roles in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994), The Mask (1994), and Dumb and Dumber (1994) established him as a leading figure in Hollywood comedy, showcasing his signature physicality, improvisational skill, and larger-than-life character work.

Throughout the late 1990s and 2000s, Carrey demonstrated remarkable dramatic range, earning critical acclaim and a Golden Globe Award for his performance in The Truman Show (1998) and a second for Man on the Moon (1999), in which he portrayed comedian Andy Kaufman.
